I Can Get You High

You spend your dark hours, with me in dreams at night.

Then you awake, she's in your bed, a disappointing sight.

Let me save you, like you saved me,

from the depths of grief, from the burning tree.

Jump down, get up, just come to me.

Numbly going through motions, that's how you get by.

Self induced and heavy, I can get you high.

So stand up and use that spine,

if yours has turned to rubber, I can lend you mine.

I'll give you everything, take all that I've got.

What's mine is yours, baby, a smile's worth a lot.

I'll be there for you, right by your side.

I'll take care of you, let's go for a ride.

Let's get out of this place, so I don't have to miss you.

There's sparks on your tongue, every time I kiss you.

Every sense and every inch of you, heightens like before.

Attuned to my energy, before I even step through the door.

So if you aren't stuck in the concrete, and your feet aren't too tired to run,

it's time to leave that window seat, we'll do the flying, honey, let's have some fun.

The whole story

D.B.,

Once again, thank you for your submission. I like this piece because of what it doesn't tell you. You give the reader little tidbits of information and you give a sense of what is going on, yet you leave a little bit of mystery for the reader. This gives us the sense of reading someone's diary or overhearing a conversation in a dark restaurant. A secret passion? A Mistresses plea? That's up for debate. What I do know is that I like it.

I look forward to reading more of your work,

l.d.
